Exposure Trip to Aizawl City, Mizoram
With the initiation of the DGP Nagaland and the DGP Mizoram, an exposure trip cum study tour to Aizawl City was organized and flagged off by Shri Joseph Hesso, Sr. Superintendent of Police, Kohima on 12th Oct’2015. A 26 member team comprising of personnel from Kohima Traffic Police, 15 NAP (IR) Mahila Bn, members of Kohima Municipal Council, All Nagaland Taxi Association and City Bus Owners’ Union of Kohima visited Aizawl from 13/10/15 to 15/10/15. The exposure trip was mainly focused at studying the efficient management and enforcement of Aizawl City Traffic in collaboration with other stake holders such as Aizawl Municipal Corporation, All Mizoram Taxi Association and City Bus Owners’ Union of Aizawl. Upon reaching Aizawl on 13/10/15, the team was accorded a warm welcome by Shri Lalthanmawia, S.P. Traffic, Aizawl which was followed by a kick-off programme with Shri L.T. Hrangchal, IPS, DIG, Northern Range, Mizoram as the Chief Guest. In order to study the various setups of Aizawl City, an interactive session was organized between the members of Kohima Municipal Council, All Nagaland Taxi Association and City Bus Owners’ Union of Kohima with their counterparts in Aizawl. For the team from Kohima Traffic Police including 15 NAP (IR) personnel, traffic drill was conducted followed by visitation of various places in the city to witness traffic management and control. They were familiarized with the Aizawl Traffic Police functionary system and administration. The police team was divided into six groups and given the opportunity to acquaint themselves with point/beat/sector duties at the following locations viz. Chandmari, Zarkawt, Millennium Centre, Bazaar Bungkawn, Zodin and AOC areas. They were was also taken for sightseeing at Solomon’s Temple, Mizoram University, Millennium Centre and Aizawl City night view from ATC Durtlang. Some of feedbacks received from the visiting team are highlighted herein; It was observed that inspite of narrow roads and by-lanes in comparison to Kohima Town, the movement of vehicular traffic is flawless in Aizawl City. There is hardly any instance of traffic jam in the city. This is attributed to the strict compliance of traffic guidelines and rules by the denizens of the city. No overtaking, no honking and no whistle blowing by traffic personnel on duty are a common sight. The roads and streets are well maintained and clean since the people observe high level of civic sense. On completion of the exposure trip, the team left Aizawl for Kohima on 15/10/15 evening and reached on 16/10/15.
